Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) technology is what allows the City Multi system to regulate the flow of refrigerant between the condensing unit and each of the indoor units in accordance with the capacity requirements of the building. VRF systems produce vast energy and space savings over conventional HVAC systems. The VRF systems experience no refrigerant to water heat loss like a water (chiller) system would. This means the compressor can maintain a higher suction pressure for more efficient operation. And unlike air (ducted DX) systems, VRF systems don't have lengthy metal ducts that always cause heat loss. Rather, you save energy and valuable space by not having them. VRF technology also allows each indoor unit to operate individually, allowing you to adjust the environment in each area separately.

The key component of VRF technology is the inverter-driven compressor. The inverter drive varies the compressor speed to match the building's heating or cooling load which is constantly changing. This means that City Multi will only consume the minimal amount of energy needed to match the indoor requirements.

All City Multi compressors are inverter-driven and capable of precisely matching a building's cooling and heating demands.

Partial load conditions prevail for more than 90% of operation time. City Multi, equipped with inverter-driven technology, takes advantage of this and is able to adjust its capacity to operate significantly more efficiently at partial loads. On the other hand, fixed-speed systems are only able to operate at 100% capacity and can never meet the annual efficiency offered by City Multi.

Using proven, single inverter-driven compressor technology, City Multi is favoured by the industry for low-starting currents (only 15 amps for a THMU-A outdoor unit), and smooth transitions across the range of compressor frequencies.

All City Multi compressors are inverter-driven and capable of precisely matching a building's cooling and heating demands.

City Multi outdoor units comprise of 1 module for P72-P120 models (Y and R2 Series), 2 modules for P144-P240 models (Y and R2 Series) and 3 modules for P264-P360 models (Y Series only). Each module carries one inverter compressor, which makes providing control simple and highly reliable.

Mitsubishi Electric stands for quality, high standards and dependability. That's why CITY MULTI VRF systems have been operating worldwide, virtually worry-free, for more than 20 years.
